Key Takeaways
Kyle, in 2017 in Books: I borrowed this book from my good friend Tim Riser, while my wife and I were visiting Tim and his wife Chalene in Boston. I hadn’t heard of it before, but after reading it, I feel like it’s one of the most important books I’ve ever read. The idea that deep thought is becoming a more scarce commodity, while at the same time as it’s becoming one of the most important skills.
Connections
- Cal Newport — author; Digital Minimalism and Discipline Is Destiny both draw the “large, uninterrupted blocks of focused time” thread back to this book.
- Digital Minimalism — the direct Newport precursor pairing; both argue attention is a scarce resource to protect from low-value digital interruption.
- Essentialism / Atomic Habits — focus-and-subtraction and habit-design companions in the same ideological family.
- Monk Mode — the deep-focus working mode associated with this book.
