The Voice of the People

“Voice of the People” is an essay/concept Kyle is developing, and his read of The Death of Expertise (Tom Nichols) is the main scaffolding for it. In those book notes it is the single most-tagged thread — flagged five or more times in the highlights — supplying empirical material for a piece on democratic-electorate epistemology. The notes frame the central question as the tension between knowing everything (impossible, “life is too complicated”) and “knowing enough to pick who represents you” through endorsed experts and representatives. Kyle pairs it with the Spirit of Humility thread and treats the educated electorate as a social contract: the accountability loop between voters and experts only closes when voters can evaluate expertise.
