Oracle
Oracle is the enterprise database and software company that got started in 1977 replacing IBM, which was already 66 years old (The Age of Incumbents). Matthew Symonds’s Softwar is a portrait of its founder Larry Ellison and the company (Softwar).
- Product view. A writer on the Retool blog set out to understand what Oracle does for developers and why the company was worth $260B, concluding it “may have the best database…in the world” (On the @retool Blog, I… (tweet)).
- AI-era exposure. It is named among the companies whose future obligations do not appear on the balance sheet (Big Tech Off-Balance Sheet Concerns). What Happens If OpenAI Dies puts about $20B of Oracle’s revenue on OpenAI and quotes Zitron: “Oracle will collapse without OpenAI’s revenue.” It is also on the company list of Field Notes 002 — Investing Through an AI Bubble (Contrary Research, Sep 2025).
