Moral Philosophy
Moral philosophy is the field of ethics (right action, duty, virtue, the good), and in the wiki it is the common tag for a set of canonical texts and the novels that dramatise them.
- Treatises on the anti-library: Cicero’s On Duties (filed as the standard Western textbook in the field for centuries), The Theory of Moral Sentiments (alongside Smith’s other book, The Wealth of Nations), Mill’s Utilitarianism (Mill) and Nietzsche’s Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
- Novels and philosophical fiction: Crime & Punishment, The Brothers Karamazov and The Stranger, the last of which has a card noting that its trial scene is what the book is “actually about”.
- Essays: Rented Virtue draws on a moral-philosophy reading of Adam Smith’s invisible hand.
Neighbouring concept pages: Ethics, Utilitarianism, Stoicism and Human Nature.
