Elliot Ackerman

Elliot Ackerman is the novelist and co-author, with retired Admiral James Stavridis, of the near-future defense-scenario novels Kyle read: 2034: A Novel of the Next World War and its direct sequel 2054. Across both books the pairing fuses Stavridis’s operational naval experience — which grounds the Pacific war and cyber scenarios in 2034 — with Ackerman’s fiction craft, in the tradition of Science Fiction as strategic foresight.

The first book dramatizes American overreach, miscalculation, and a Sino-Iranian-Russian alignment, arguing that the U.S.’s deregulated, disaggregated tech ecosystem became a cyber vulnerability against China’s centralized infrastructure. The sequel 2054 shifts to a Singularity race, featuring Ray Kurzweil as a character clinging to life to witness “bio-integrated quantum computing” fuse biological and technological evolution, and closing on a quoted line from Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America.
