The System of the World (Stephenson novel)

The third and final volume of the Baroque Cycle, set largely in London around the Trial of the Pyx and the recoinage — Newton as Master of the Mint chasing counterfeiters, the Hanoverian succession, and the invention of a working national credit system. The title is borrowed from Book III of Newton’s Principia.

Context: the closing volume of the series a16z carded as one Fantasy entry, praising it as seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Europe rendered “at the heart of scientific discovery” — and promising, unlike some Stephenson, a real ending. Volume one is Quicksilver, volume two The Confusion.
