Volume two, and the other half of the book Hyperion leaves unfinished — the pilgrims’ stories give way to an interstellar war, the machine intelligences of the TechnoCore step forward as actors, and the questions the first volume posed get answered. It took the 1991 British Science Fiction and Locus awards.
