One of the book’s central ideas: knowledge that “cannot be trained for,” because if society could train you for it, it could train and replace anyone else with the same training. Naval Ravikant says it is found by pursuing genuine curiosity and passion rather than whatever is currently in demand, is usually highly technical or creative, and is taught (when it’s taught at all) through apprenticeship rather than school. He describes it as emerging from “a weird combination of unique traits from your DNA, your unique upbringing, and your response to it” — things you did almost effortlessly as a kid that others noticed even if you didn’t consider them a skill (his own example: sales ability, fast/obsessive data absorption, and a love of tinkering with technology, first pointed out to him by his mother). Combined with accountability and leverage, applying specific knowledge is how he says you eventually “get what you deserve” — i.e., get paid.
