Simon Sebag Montefiore

Simon Sebag Montefiore (b. 1965) is a British historian and writer, known for popular histories of Russia and the Romanovs (Stalin: The Court of the Red Tsar, The Romanovs) and for editing anthologies of historic oratory. He edited Speeches That Changed The World, the anthology of history-bending oratory (founding era to the Cold War’s end) that Kyle read in 2017 on a recommendation from Elliot Bay Book Company. That collection sits in the Great Speeches tradition Kyle keeps returning to — Patrick Henry, John F. Kennedy’s moon address, Václav Havel — and feeds his interest in the art of moving people with words.
