Redemption Ark

The second Inhibitor novel, and the one where the threat introduced in Revelation Space stops being an archaeological puzzle and becomes an evacuation problem. The plot turns on a cache of weapons nobody fully understands and on the Conjoiners, a faction whose advantage is that they think as a networked collective — which is also what makes them hard to trust. Read after volume one; the universe’s rules about travel time and relativistic cost do most of the dramatic work.

Context: B tier, “also worth reading,” carded as volume two of the Revelation Space entry. a16z’s caveat on the series is worth keeping in mind here: the world-building is very strong, the characters can feel flat, and the slow-burning plots get more engaging the further in you read.
