Organizational Culture

Organizational Culture

The shared values, expectations, and behavioral norms that shape who fits in an organization and how work gets done. George Hotz’s approach at comma.ai: “build a culture where you just sort of don’t fit in if you don’t aspire to excellence” — culture as a self-selection mechanism rather than an HR policy. The implication is that organizational culture is more powerful when it is ambient (built into the environment) than explicit (enforced from above). People who don’t desire greatness leave; people who do self-select in. See Culture.
