Jack Lindquist

Disneyland’s first president, and author of the memoir In Service to the Mouse — which Kyle credits as the source of a key lesson he draws in his Walt Disney and the Promise of Progress City notes. Lindquist learned his craft directly from Walt Disney, and one of those lessons was that “the best solutions usually came after a great deal of observation.” Kyle ties this to Walt’s own habits (studying how people moved at museums to design around “museum feet,” visiting dozens of parks), distilling it into his recurring principle Be Observant.

Context: Jack Lindquist (1927–2016) was a longtime Disney marketing executive who joined Disneyland in 1955 and became its first president in 1990. His 2010 memoir In Service to the Mouse recounts his decades inside the Disney organization.
