Towards Virtual Reality Infinite Walking: Dynamic Saccadic Redirection
TL;DR — NVIDIA and Adobe research that rotates a VR world during the instant you are blind mid-saccade, so a small room can feel endless.
SIGGRAPH 2018 (ACM Transactions on Graphics). The eyes are briefly blind during saccades, the rapid jumps between fixation points. The system tracks gaze in the headset and rotates the virtual environment during those moments, too slightly to notice, so a user walking a 3.5 m by 3.5 m room can follow a much longer virtual path.
What it is: a peer-reviewed systems paper with user studies. 13 pages; the file is large (about 50 MB) because of its figures.
