Brief biographies of pioneers, with stories and photographs, across Catron, Grant, Sierra, Socorro and Valencia Counties — written by a woman born in Sierra County who worked as a social worker in Catron County.

Context: Self-published by the author. Publication year not established. Its jacket calls the region “remote and little known… which even in our modern and scientific world of today remains remote and primitive.”

Why it’s on the list: A pioneer-by-pioneer reference across exactly the five counties the Slaughter/V+T range touched — the most likely printed source to corroborate the single-source oral history from H.B. Birmingham.

Where I saw it: Named in Part 2 of Debbie Lee’s four-part Catron County Centennial History, posted publicly by the Catron County Historical Society in April 2022. It is part of the Catron County reading list assembled for the Luna novel research — the county Kyle’s family town sits in.
