Sir Edwin Arnold’s verse translation, the one through which most nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century English readers met the text. Gandhi read the Gita first in this translation.

A scanned Jaico edition. As with any verse translation, the English is doing a great deal of work — Arnold is an interpreter as much as a translator, which is worth knowing before quoting it.
