Kyle’s line is the bare title. Potter’s 1976 history is the standard book of that name and the likeliest referent in a best-history-book thread; Hinton Rowan Helper’s 1857 pamphlet The Impending Crisis of the South carries almost the same title, and the thread does not settle which was meant.
