Skill Tree

“Skill Tree” is Kyle’s own question, raised in his notes on How To Read a Book: “Is reading something together a Skill Tree? Picture a class all collectively staring at a google doc. The ability to read things through, comment, highlight, bold, reference, take notes. What is that skill?” The thought extends Adler’s Active Reading thesis (reading as demanding more of both self and text) into a collective, collaborative mode — the composite, named skill of a group reading a shared document together: annotating, cross-referencing, and building meaning in real time. It’s framed as an open question rather than a settled concept: what to call that bundle of group-reading abilities.
