Psychopathy and the Cinema: Fact or Fiction?
TL;DR — Forensic psychiatrists rate 126 film psychopaths from 400 movies for clinical realism. Anton Chigurh is singled out as one of the most realistic.
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 2014 (online 2013). From 400 films made between 1915 and 2010 the authors selected 126 psychopathic characters (21 female, 105 male) and had forensic psychiatrists and film critics analyse them. Portrayals have grown more realistic over time, though realistic ones remain a minority; the authors suggest them as teaching films.
What it is: a peer-reviewed paper with an unusual method, popular far outside psychiatry. Posted to the subreddit as a request and answered in the same thread.
