Metamorphoses

Why it’s on the list: Fifteen books of Latin hexameter carrying the whole body of classical myth from the creation to the deification of Julius Caesar, strung on a single principle: every story ends with somebody turning into something else. The channel through which most Greek myth actually reached the Renaissance and everything after it.

Where I heard about it

• Founders Classical Academy — assigned (in selections) as the last text of the ninth-grade year at this classical school in Lewisville, Texas, closing the loop back to the sixth-grade Greek Myths. Posted by the Classic Learning Test in September 2026 as an example of what a classical curriculum assigns. The full eight-year sequence is on Founders Classical Academy Reading List.

About this edition
