Franz Kafka

Author of Metamorphosis, which Kyle has read. The novella follows Gregor Samsa, who wakes transformed into an insect and slowly becomes a burden to the family he had supported — a story Kyle’s highlights read through the lens of Family, duty, and the loss of one’s role within it.

Context: Franz Kafka (1883–1924) was a German-language writer from Prague whose work — including The Metamorphosis, The Trial, and The Castle — gave rise to the term “Kafkaesque” for surreal, alienating, bureaucratic dread.
