Fiction Writing Ideas

The list on Kyle’s Roam Writing page holding narrative premises — screenplays, dream fragments, sci-fi conceits, short stories — as distinct from Writing Projects, which holds essay ideas. Each seed became its own wiki/manuscripts/ page.

The seeds

  • Billowy Cloud - Silver Cloud — a screenplay opening: a black screen, a voiceover asking “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, and the answer “Happy.”
  • My Dream- Mothers and Children — a dream narrative: a mother and children in a waterless mountain range, rain that turns to flood, and an ark that is pointedly not Noah’s.
  • Soul Mates — a premise: if having one true soul mate were doctrine, most of the world would be religious out of fear of missing them — and the Pope refuses to approve a couple’s soul-mate status.
  • Stones Left Unturned (Short Story) — geniuses lost to poverty and malnutrition, braided with the chess-savant story Michael Richards tells.
  • When we know everything, do we know anything? — a future where every event on earth can be replayed, including every religion’s founding miracles.
  • Where Do We Go From Here? — a president in 2020 commits to a single term and to weekly addresses that report rather than campaign.
  • The Luna Novel — the family-history novel; the largest of the group and the only one with a character bible.

Two that were misfiled here

Both were captured on this list but are not fiction, and both were rerouted on 2026-08-18:

  • Stories I Only Tell My Friends — Rob Lowe’s memoir with 18 highlights and Reading Status: Books Read. A book (hard rule 18); merged into Stories I Only Tell My Friends.
  • The Norwich Project — urban-economics research on Greater Norwich sourced from the GNDP Core Strategy. An essay draft, now in essays-under-construction.

The lesson, recorded in rule 18: the metadata decides the type, not the list a page happens to sit on.
