Enterprise Sales
Enterprise Sales
Selling software to large organizational buyers through a human-led, consultative process — as distinct from self-serve or product-led acquisition. Two recurring claims in Kyle’s corpus:
The CEO’s relationship to enterprise selling cascades downstream. John Doerr’s mentor told him: “you’re going to succeed or fail based on your ability to motivate others to get sales.” Jini Kim at Nuna reinforced the point: “when you’re backing the leader of an enterprise software company, be sure that leader loves enterprise selling, because it sets the tone for the entire rest of the organization.” Doerr frames consultative selling — solving real technical problems — as a “very high calling,” not a necessary evil. PLG does not replace enterprise sales. 57% of buyers say the enterprise path requires “contact sales,” not self-serve; only 7% allow users to self-serve onto enterprise plans (data on Slack, Zapier, MongoDB). Enterprise deals require human AEs, and that constraint persists even for product-led companies — PLG is a top-of-funnel motion, not a full replacement.
