Energy Policy
Energy policy is the set of government choices on oil, power and climate. The saved material is about where those choices have failed:
- The oil playbook. A thread by Robinson Meyer says that for decades the US answered oil price spikes by asking Saudi Arabia to drill more, pursuing domestic “energy independence,” and funding alternative-energy R&D, and that Putin’s war disproved key tenets of this, downgrading America’s role in the clean-energy transition.
- Nuclear. Threads argue nuclear waste is not a real problem, that ALARA regulation drove nuclear’s costs until it had no advantage (“They nuked nuclear,” via Roots of Progress), and that not building more is “beyond idiotic.” How America Learned to Love Nuclear Again tells the turnaround as an energy-policy story. See Nuclear Energy.
- Cost comparisons. A thread says renewables look cheap on paper because the backup for intermittency is left out of the price (Intermittent Energy).
