Crazy Sequential Representation: Numbers from 0 to 11111 in Terms of Increasing and Decreasing Orders of 1 to 9

Inder J. Taneja 2014 View original ↗

TL;DR — 161 pages writing every number from 0 to 11111 using the digits 1 through 9 in order, and in reverse. Only 10958 resists.

arXiv:1302.1479 (v5, January 2014). Using addition, multiplication, subtraction, exponentiation, division and brackets, Taneja expresses each number with the digits 1–9 in increasing order and again in decreasing order. Every number has an increasing representation except 10958, which later became a small internet puzzle.

What it is: recreational mathematics, essentially a very long table.
