Children of Memory

The third book turns the series’ question inward. A human colony is failing slowly on a world that was never quite habitable, the narrative keeps not adding up, and a pair of corvids who talk fluently about everything are the case study for the trilogy’s hardest problem: how you would tell a mind that understands from a mind that only appears to. The question is a recognisable one to anyone who has watched a language model answer well.

Context: B tier, “also worth reading,” volume three of the Children of Time entry. Read after Children of Time and Children of Ruin; it depends on both.
