Chapterhouse: Dune

The sixth and last Dune novel Frank Herbert wrote, published in 1985 and a number-two New York Times best seller. It continues Heretics of Dune directly: the Bene Gesserit, hunted by the Honored Matres, try to rebuild their order and re-seed the desert on a new world. Herbert died in February 1986 with the sequence unfinished, so the book ends on threads he never resolved.

Context: the closing volume of the S-tier Dune entry on a16z’s list. Worth knowing before starting it that the series does not land — the reason the Dune shelf later filled with other people’s continuations is that this book is a middle, not an end.
