Book Publishing
The business of getting books written, financed and sold. In the saved posts that reference it, the recurring argument is that the traditional model is under strain and that audience, not the publisher, is the scarce asset:
- Publishers “think they are in the business of writing and selling books,” which the post calls wrong (Book Publishers Think They Are… (tweet)).
- A veteran author reports that advances are not being paid and that it is impossible to sell anything without a massive audience; the post calls for a new model “paid for by fans” (Spoke to a veteran author… (tweet)).
- The paradox: publishers want authors with a popular idea, a big email list and lots of connections, but authors who have all of those do not need a publisher (The paradox of book publishing… (tweet)).
BookClub is the venture example filed here: a platform for author-led book clubs that raised a $6M seed (BookClub Raises $6 Million Seed to Scale Author-Led Book Clubs), which Kyle read as “just another facet of people building Community around their content.”
