Angus King

Angus King was the Governor of Maine who championed one-to-one laptops for students. In Education Nation, author Milton Chen uses King as an example of long-horizon public investment: pressed on why Maine should spend on student computers rather than roads, bridges, or health care, King answered the skeptics by quoting Wayne Gretzky — “Most players skate to where the puck is. I skate to where the puck is going to be.” With industries such as logging in decline, King saw Maine’s future in “a digital, scientifically literate workforce” and wanted to move the state there.
