An Interview with Michael Rabin (ACM Turing Award Oral History)

Michael Rabin, interviewed by David Harel November 12, 2015 View original ↗

TL;DR — David Harel’s 35-page oral history with Michael Rabin, co-recipient of the 1976 Turing Award, recorded in Jerusalem.

Part of the ACM’s series of interviews with Turing Award winners. Rabin recounts being born in Breslau in 1931, his family’s emigration to Haifa in 1935, and a sister’s copy of Microbe Hunters as an early influence, before the work on finite automata and nondeterminism that won the 1976 award (with Dana Scott) and his later work on randomised algorithms.

What it is: an oral-history transcript, a first-person account.
