Why it’s on the list: The poet’s Lincoln — The Prairie Years in 1926, The War Years in 1939, six volumes and a Pulitzer, written as literature and criticised ever since for exactly that. Still the most widely read Lincoln biography of the twentieth century.

No page_count: the work runs to six volumes across two publications (1926 and 1939) and exists in several abridgements, including Sandburg’s own one-volume edition of 1954.
