Why it’s on the list: Ted Turner’s memoir of taking over his father’s billboard business at 24 and turning it into Turner Broadcasting — WTBS, CNN, TNT, the Atlanta Braves — through to the Time Warner merger that cost him most of his fortune and his operating control. Short first-person “voices” from family, executives and rivals are interleaved, so it doubles as an oral history of the company.
